MANGA 'THERMAE ROMAE' GOES TO BIG SCREEN

'THERMAE ROMAE' is a Japanese manga series by Mari Yamazaki. It won the 3rd Manga Taishō and the Short Story Award at the 14th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize. Fuji TV has previously announced that they will produce a live-action film adaptation of the manga and now a teaser trailer has been released for 'THERMAE ROMAE'. Check it out below.

The story is a comedy about Lucius, an architect of public bath houses in ancient Rome. During the manga, he time-travels to various modern-day baths in Japan. Through manga and essay passages, the author explores the two cultures in the world "that have loved baths the most: the Japanese and the Romans".

Due to hit theaters this holiday on December 22 is Chinese period drama 'THE GREAT MAGICIAN' stars Tony Leung, Sean Lau and Zhou Xun. Directed by Derek Yee, a former Shaw Brothers actor who has achieved fame and respect in Hong Kong and international film festival circuits as a film director and screenwriter for treading carefully commercial viability concerns with artistic integrity, the film has its newest trailer that you can watch after synopsis below.

1916. General Yuan Shi-kai has just died and the Japanese are encroaching. A mysterious magician Zhang Xian catches the eye of local warlord, Lei Daniu, who hopes to use him to win the affections of Liu Yin, a woman he forced into being his seventh concubine. Unbeknownst to him, Zhang is the fiancé of Liu who has been waiting for him to rescue her. Zhang, who was hellbent on destroying Lei, discovers that the man behind the evil deeds is actually his head butler Liu who has joined forces with the Japanese in his misguided efforts to unite the country. To defeat Liu and win back the heart of his love, Zhang pulls out his ultimate magic trick.


‘BAUHINIA HEROINE’ GETS A FILM WITH CHRISSIE CHAU

Bauhinia Heroine is a real life super hero who dresses in costume and gives money to the poor, highlighting the growing wealth gap in China. The actual identity of Bauhinia woman is unknown, but her methods have attracted the attention of filmmmaker Stephen Shiu Jr, who will be making a film about her with rising star Chrissie Chau playing the superheroine.
Though the movie will start the shooting process in 2012 for a 2013 release, but some promo posters for ‘BAUHINIA HEROINE’ that shows Chrissie as the masked woman superhero who fighting injustice have already spread all over the web. Check two of the promo posters here.

As reported by WantChinaTimes, Bauhinia Woman first appeared in mid-May, giving HK$100(US$12.86) and food to 10 poor families. She has continued her efforts as her popularity exploded on the internet, because this is the kind of stuff the internet loves. Bauhinia Woman admits to being inspired by Hollywood movie ‘Kick-Ass’ and the classic Hong Kong heroine character Black Rose, which is why she named herself after the flower that represents the city, Bauhinia.

‘MY WAY’ 1ST TRAILER PROMISES ANOTHER EPIC ASIAN WAR MOVIE

The First ever trailer for Kang Je-gyu's next war movie after his previous blockbuster effort ‘TAE GUK GI: THE BROTHERHOOD OF WAR’ is finally arrive. The Korea/Japan/China co-production has an all-star pan-Asian cast line-up that includes Jang Dong-gun (The Warrior's Way), Joe Odagiri (Air Doll) and Fan Bingbing (Shaolin, Bodyguards and Assassins). SYNOPSIS: The setting is Seoul, in Japan-colonized Korea. Jun-shik, who lives and works in a large Japanese estate--which belongs to Tatsuo's grandfather--and Tatsuo are rivals, both aiming to become competitors in the upcoming marathon. Jun-shik becomes elected to participate in the Tokyo Olympics as a marathon runner, but war breaks out with the U.S.S.R. and he is forced to enlist in the army.
One day, Tatsuo is recruited to become the head of defense in Jun-shik's unit. Tatsuo devises a scheme to attack the Soviets but the plan falls apart and Tatsuo and Jun-shik are held captive. When the Germans attack the Soviets, the POWs are forced to join the Soviet Army. Jun-shik and Tatsuo try to escape, but are captured by the Germans, and the two are forced to separate.
In 1944, on the shores of Normandy--where Tatsuo has been allocated to--Jun-shik and Tatsuo meet again. Jun-shik has long become a German soldier at this point, and the battle against the Allied Forces are imminent. Upon hearing that an exit passage was possible via Cherbourg, Tatsuo proposes to Jun-shik that they escape together. Amidst the chaotic throes of an enemy attack, Tatsuo and Jun-shik make a run for their lives.


PHILIPPINES’ ZOMBIE FLICK ‘NOT LIKE US’ FIRST TRAILER IMPRESS

Philippines cinema is going to bring an artistic twist to the zombie genre via director Ivan Zaldarriaga and Brandon Relucio’s movie titled ‘DI INGON ‘NATO’ aka ‘NOT LIKE US’ in English. The first trailer for the film has just arrived and it looks completely interesting. Check it out after you read the synopsis below.

SYNOPSIS: In a remote mountain village in Cebu, Philippines, a farmer will commit murder, a young doctor will lose her first patient, and a baranggay captain will find a girl, brutally murdered in a cemetery. Within the next few days, a mystery surrounding the entire boondock will be unraveled, and they will have to rely on each other to survive. And so begins the string of horrific events that is Di Ingon Nato, a film by Brandon Relucio and Ivan Zaldarriaga, which accounts the last days of the townspeople, and how they respond to an incurable afflication that can take away the living, as well as breathe life to the dead. Di Ingon Nato is a gritty ensemble piece (Lead by Rez Cortez, Mercedes Cabral, Franco Reyes, and Donna Gimeno) portraying how people cope with the death of their loved ones. It is also a film about how they react when their loved ones return......
